Dehradun, Oct 28: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the acid attack here on two college students, one of them the sister of Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, police said today.

While Avinash Sharma was arrested from Chandigarh today, Prem Singh, who allegedly threw acid on Rangoli Ranaut and her friend Vijaya Chublani on October 5, was rounded up from Joginder Nagar area of Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district yesterday, DGP Kanchan Chowdhary-Bhattacharya told reporters.

The DGP said initial investigations had revealed Prem Singh threw concentrated hydrochloric acid on Rangoli on the instructions of Sharma, who was allegedly in love with her.

Upset over the marriage of Rangoli planned for early next year, Sharma conspired to deface her in revenge, Chowdhary-Bhattacharya said.

The two accused, who were paraded before the media this evening, denied the charges.

Rangoli had received serious burn injuries in the attack while Vijaya suffered minor burns.

On October 5, Sharma and Singh came from Chandigarh by bus and bought the acid from a shop in Dehradun. After the attack both went back to Chandigarh where Sharma paid Singh Rs 500 and asked him to go underground, the DGP said.

Singh reappeared in Joginder Nagar area in Himachal from where he was arrested last night.

Police will now ask Vijaya to identify the accused while Rangoli, who is recuperating in Mumbai, will be questioned, she said.
