Kangana Ranaut speaks about her future in cinema and plans for sanyaas thereafter!
How has life been lately? You've been through much…I'm at peace with myself. Professionally, I'm doing what I've always wanted to do. I don't run around doing multiple shifts a day. I wish to grow both as an actress as well as a human being.
You'll be stepping into Bipasha's shoes with Raaz 2.It does not matter to me who got the role first or who my co-stars are. I only care for the script and the director's vision. I always ask myself what I would gain as an actress after having played a certain role.
Do you believe in ghosts?I believe in spirits. I'm a very spiritual person. They say when our soul leaves a body it wanders until it finds the right identity for a rebirth. So, I do believe that these spirits exist around us and we should just let them be.
Have you ever experienced the supernatural? No. I've never had any such experience.
You recently announced that you wanted to embrace celibacy. Are you still hanging on to the idea?Of course, I absolutely intend to stick to my decision. I'm completely into yoga and meditation. I devote a lot of time to my spiritual growth. It's very important for me.
When will we get to see you in a Yashraj film or even a Karan Johar or Subhash Ghai movie?By the mid 2009 you'll see me in most of those banners.
How easy or difficult was it to do the topless scene in Fashion? It was not topless! Besides, it's too early to reveal the details so let's save it up for later. While shooting, we use such camera angles that even if the actress isn't actually topless, she can be made to look as though she is. Madhur sir is a brilliant director and he has done a great job in Fashion. That scene was a challenging one for both of us.
Did Carol Gracious come on the sets and try to stop the shooting of the particular scene? No, she never came on the sets. These are stories cooked up by the media. Or maybe she was invisible to me (laughs).
You have the skinny body-type compared to other Bollywood actresses, who have curvier figures. Is it a disadvantage?I am extremely happy with my body. I'm grateful to have a figure which enables me to wear international labels with ease. In fact, international fashion houses call me to endorse their labels. I love to do physical work - I wake up in the morning and clean my house, do the laundry whenever I get the time. Thanks to my svelte frame I can do all this easily. In fact, other actresses constantly complain about their bodies not being perfect.
When shall we see you sharing screen space with actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan?I don't think on these lines at all. I prefer to do meaningful roles rather than be an appendage to big heroes. I want to enjoy my work; after all it's just been two years since I became part of this industry.
And how long do you intend to carry on?May be 25 years. After that I'll take up sanyaas, or do some social work. But, I still have many years to go.
You have done serious roles. When do we get to see you in a masala flick? If you term mindless films as the masala movies, then my answer is 'never'. Even if I do such a film, it won't be the ones which require me to simply pose as a good looking damsel with padded bras and heavy make-up. More than 25 big and small banners have offered me such movies but I turned them down.
You refused many projects from the Bhatt stable as you were not happy with the money they offered…It was never about money. I did not like the scripts they narrated to me nor were the roles good enough. However, I made an exception with Raaz 2 because I liked the script. Even though I come from a middle class family with working parents, money has never been the deciding factor. Mukesh Bhatt is more like a father to me.
Are the Bhatts paying you your market price for Raaz 2?Yes. They are paying me my market price for Raaz 2.
What do you look for in a man?The eyes give away everything. By looking into his eyes, I would know if he belongs to me or not. I'm a kind of a person who can fall in love even with an ordinary man. I like real men.
So tell me about the new man in your life?Shut up! (laughs)
