FROM being the alcoholic bar dancer in Gangster, the Himachal Pradesh lass Kangana Ranaut has come a long way.

She was in Chennai on Monday to be part of a media interaction for her first Tamil film, Dhaam Dhoom.

This Jeyam Ravi, Kangana and Lakshmi Rai starrer was the movie that director Jeeva was working on, before he met an untimely death.

In this quick chat, Kangana lists out what she likes about Kollywood, Dhaam Dhoom, and her co-star, Jeyam Ravi.

What is the role you play in Dhaam Dhoom?

I’m a village belle in the movie. When Jeeva narrated the story to me, I loved it. It was an interesting story and I liked the role I play, Shenbagam.

It’s something I’ve not done before and from straightening my hair, I had to do many things to look the perfect village girl. It has come out well.

What do you think about Ravi’s performance?

He’s a fabulous actor and is an inspiration to work. I know him both as a co-star and as a friend. He is great person. He has the biggest capabilities to be one of the biggest actors ever. He can’t think beyond his work.

Have you seen Tamil films?

Yes, just two: M Kumaran, Son of Mahalakshmi and Jeyam. But from what I know, I see only hero-oriented films here. There aren’t many female lead subjects. Why, do you all like only men?

What do you like most about the food here?

Food! I love Chennai food.

How is the work culture here?

People are thoroughly professional. People’s sense of punctuality is so good. I really hope to come here.

It was this movie Jeeva was working on till his end. What do you remember of your association with him?

He was technically sound and very hardworking. I’ve asked him many queries about cinema and he had helped me a lot. I admire his compassion for his unit members. I hope we have done justice to his dream.

What are the movies you are working on? Any South Indian movie lined up?

I’m shooting for Fashion and Raaz 2. No, no Tamil or any other South Indian movie as yet.
