‘I’m not your usual actor’

That's how Kangna Ranaut preferred to describe herself in a three-minute chat with Sujata Chakrabarti!

Kangana Ranaut insists that she is not like any of Bollywood’s leading ladies. Before you start wondering how, she tells you that she prefers not to be late.

Quite true, of you think that she was only 15 minutes late at a promotional event when any Bollywood newcomer’s standard entry time is two hours behind schedule.

Unlike her powerful roles on screen, Kangna now looks quite sombre even though it makes you wonder why her face looks so puffy and pale these days. Definitely not looking her sexiest avatar, in a pair of mid-riff baring denims and top.

She perhaps didn’t overhear the country manager (of the jeans brand she was promoting) sneering behind her, saying, “If she wasn’t wearing our clothes, I would have made sure her next film does not release for the next 40 years.”

Kangana was visibly miffed while battling a volley of questions on her alleged relationship with director Mohit Suri. Not only did she deny the link-up, she even threatened to track down the source of this ‘nasty rumour’.

Expectedly, Kangana remained fidgety through the rest of the junta conversation, and preferred to only answer questions on her curls and her new style statement. When we managed to corner her for a one-on-one, her threatening looking assistant reminded us that we had to wind up all conversation within three minutes. Yes, you heard it right. Just three minutes.

To begin with, we asked her about her recent visit to the Himachal, while shooting for Raaz 2 with co-star Emran Hashmi. She repeats her trademark line: “You know me… I am different from other Bollywood actresses.”

She sounded unhappy with the way some filmmakers treat their leading ladies in Bollywood. She says that while she was shooting for her first regional movie Dhaam Dhoom opposite Jayam Ravi, she discovered that down South, actresses are treated very differently. Says the actress, “The filmmakers there are technically very strong. And unlike us, they call you on time and let you go off the sets on time. There is much better organising there.”

The actor, who not so long ago, had made headlines for all the wrong reasons, admits that she does not mind that people find her ‘daring’. She actually laughs it off and says, “I never did or said anything deliberately. It is just the way I am and the way my life has been. I just prefer to be myself.” And again, she adds it like a refrain, “After all I am not like your usual actor.”

My next question is about her forthcoming project, Kites, where she plays the wife of Hrithik Roshan. And at the mention of the actor’s name, she gushes like a school kid and says, “You can’t imagine how excited I am to work with him.”

And with those three questions, the three minutes with Kangana are over, but the blush
on her face remained even after being hastily whisked away by that threatening looking assistant of her’s.
